Tingdene Group has grown and diversified over the past 50 years becoming a wide-ranging group of companies operating and developing residential parks, leisure parks and marinas. Tingdene Group remains in private family ownership and maintains the family values to which the business was formed.
Tingdene Group began with Matthew Gibbard forming Tingdene Developments in 1998 when he saw the advantages of diversifying the business into owning, developing and managing Residential Parks for the retirement community to incorporate the homes that his father was manufacturing.
His father, Jim, in 1969, had started manufacturing park homes and lodges establishing the ‘Tingdene’ brand in the Finedon Industrial Estate, Wellingborough area. Over a further three decades, Matthew expanded the operation to incorporate marinas and leisure parks, alongside the residential parks.
We continue to grow our portfolio to support our mission to create communities that we can be proud of, by developing, enhancing and operating industry leading residential parks, leisure parks and marinas.
Where does the name ‘Tingdene’ come from?
In 1086 when the Domesday Book was completed, Finedon was a large royal manor, previously held by Queen Edith, wife of Edward the Confessor. At that time, the village where Finedon was located (now a town) was known as Tingdene. The word ‘Tingdene’ originates from the Old English words ‘þing’ meaning assembly or meeting and ‘Denu’ meaning valley or vale.
‘Tingdene’ was used instead of Finedon up until the early nineteenth century when Finedon became the commonly accepted version.
Given the location of Tingdene Head Offices in the Finedon Industrial Estate, the name Tingdene has been aptly used since 1969.
